Councillors

Tarporley is represented by 12 councillors. Each is elected by residents and serves a four-year term. Councillors give their time voluntarily and are not paid.

Register of interests

All councillors are required to declare any disclosable pecuniary interests when they take office and to keep their declarations up to date. The current register is available as a downloadable document, and individual declarations are linked from each councillor’s card above.

Code of conduct

The council has adopted the “Local Government Association Model Code of Conduct”. The code sets out the standards expected of councillors when carrying out their duties and how to raise a concern if you believe a councillor has breached it.

Elections

The next ordinary election for all 12 seats on Tarporley Parish Council takes place in May 2027. Councillors serve a four-year term.

We’d warmly encourage any resident who cares about the village to consider standing. You don’t need to be an expert — just a willingness to listen, get involved, and help shape the future of Tarporley. Seats are not always fully contested, so your interest really does make a difference.

Working Groups

The council has the following standing Working Groups, which meet as required and report back to full council:

• Allotments & Bowling Green (Former RBL)
  Councillors: Gill Clough & Peter Tavernor
• Arts Working Group
  Tarporley Parish Council has access to a significant sum of “Public Art” S106 money. CWAC Council have strict rules on accessing and spending this money. This working group’s objectives are: To develop scheme to utilise available Arts S106 funding. To work in conjunction with the Village Branding Working Group.

• Cemetery Committee
  Deals with cemetery rules, fees, operation & maintenance and budget contribution.

• Christmas Festival Working Group
  Works in co-ordination with other groups in the village: To ensure that the Christmas Lights/Trees are erected & removed. To ensure the safe running of the Christmas Event inc. risk assessments. To manage the above within the agreed budget. To work in partnership with community groups and businesses in Tarporley.

• Neighbourhood Plan (NP)
  Develop, review and deliver the intended vision, objectives and planning decisions.

• Policies Working Group
  Responsible for reviewing Council policies/documents and making recommendations to the Parish Council.

• Public Rights Of Way Working Group
  This working group is concerned with the public rights of way (PROW) within the Parish Boundary. The Parish Council considers that those PROW footpaths within the buit areas of the village merit a higher standard of surface upkeep than those in open countryside. For example, people can expect footpaths in open countryside to be muddy when wet but footpaths used within the village to access schools and other facilities should not be muddy. This working group’s objectives are to: Ensure that all PROW within Tarporley Parish boundary are maintained in a fit for purpose condition. Create awareness in the community by promoting and publicising our footpath network – online, signage, publications, etc.

• Risk Assessment Working Group
  Responsible for undertaking and reviewing risk assessments.

• Staffing Working Group
  deals with all matters relating to Parish Council employees, e.g. Parish Clerks. Its objectives are to : Ensure HR legal employment compliance. Determine staff workload/allocated hours and work patterns to meet the current needs and demands of the Parish Council. Approval of annual leave or any other special request for absence from work. Monitoring of sickness absence. Ensure that Training and Development opportunities are made available to staff. Ensure that appropriate records are maintained for all staffing activities. Implement Performance Management measures as required. Manage the Recruitment and Selection process. Monitor staffing budget expenditure. Complete an annual review of staffing requirements including work patterns, hours, holiday entitlement, role profiles and job descriptions. Consult with designated HR advisor for clarification on issues as required.

• Tarporley Economy Working Group
  To promote Tarporley to residents of the Tarporley Ward and surrounding area. To promote Tarporley as a place to visit. To promote Tarporley as the heart of the Sandstone Ridge. Maintain the vibrancy of the High Street.
